Frequently asked questions.

Do you take insurance?

I do not. Depending on your insurance plan, you should be eligible to receive partial reimbursement for psychotherapy. I can help you figure this out, and I provide “superbills” for you to submit to your insurance company. But I do not bill your insurance company directly, and at this time I do not participate in any insurance panels.

What does therapy cost?

My fee is $200 per session. There are a variety of ways to pay, but the easiest is credit card. At the start of our time together, you can submit your credit card information and I will charge it weekly.

Is what I say confidential?

Yes. Everything you say in therapy stays in therapy. Confidentiality is crucial to psychotherapeutic treatment, and I make use of HIPAA-compliant practice-management software so that all of your information remains private and secure. That said, there are some (very rare) situations in which strict legal requirements may limit confidentiality. We will discuss these at the beginning of treatment.

Will I be seeing you in person or remotely?

That’s up to you. Preferably, we will meet in person. That said, I also see clients remotely, through the secure HIPAA-compliant system mentioned above. My office is located at 26 Court Street, in downtown Brooklyn. This office is near numerous subway stations and accessible by way of many lines, including the 2, 3, 4, 5, A, C, F, R, and G. When we first speak, we can discuss which you prefer, remote, in-person, or some combination of the two.

Can I talk to you before I sign up for therapy?

Yes. I offer free 15-minute consultations for all prospective clients. This gives me an opportunity to hear about what brings you the therapy. More importantly, it gives you a sense of whether you may want to work with me. That said, it is extremely difficult (if not impossible) to answer the question of whether we are the “right fit” from a short phone call.

I can’t afford you/Your location isn’t convenient to me. Can you help me find a different therapist?

I can certainly try. I know a number of good therapists and can advise you as to how to find someone who is right for you.

Can you prescribe medication?

I am not a medical doctor and can not prescribe medication. But if you decide that you’d like to try medication I can refer you to one of the psychiatrists I work with.
